ESO OS 3.0 Preview: a new desktop shell (Start menu, taskbar with pins and previews, snap layouts, Task view, Quick Settings and notifications), Nano one-click boost, the Usage Shrinker, Game Bar (Win+G), Snipping Tool and screen recorder, night light, and automatic signed updates from esoos.dpdns.org that you can switch off in Settings → Updates.
Every window is a real Windows-style window: title bar with minimize, maximize/restore and close; double-click the title bar to maximize; resize from any edge; snap to screen edges; Always on top (Win+Ctrl+T). The taskbar shows a button for every open window. ESO Store installs Steam and Flathub apps again.
Matrix becomes one terminal for every shell, with tabs and split panes: zsh, Bash, PowerShell 7.6, Ubuntu, Arch Linux, Fedora and Alpine containers (like WSL), Command Prompt through Wine, Administrator, Python and SSH. Drawn on the CPU, so it needs no graphics card.
Windows 11 keyboard shortcuts everywhere (Win, Win+R, Win+E, Win+I, Win+L, Alt+Tab, Win+Tab, Win+arrows, virtual desktops and more), a new Run box (Win+R) that understands Windows names like notepad, calc and taskmgr, and Secure Boot support.
Scale 100 % with automatic resolution on every screen. PCs without a GPU, VMs and PCs with little RAM start the light session automatically. Kernel speed pack (preempt=full, zram, BBR), ESO Task Manager, ESO Defender with self-healing, ESO Browser, a new Store and a live 4K video wallpaper option.
The first ESO OS: Debian 13 with Linux 7.1, Mesa 26.1 and Hyprland 0.55, the ESO desktop with a dark metal theme, a dock, the Calamares installer, zsh with starship, and a live USB that also installs to disk.
